These aren't traditional talk therapy groups. Each group member is guaranteed to be able to work on her/his individual goals and see results at the end of the hour when the group is finished! You will be actively working in the group on your own individual goal for 35 - 40 minutes of each 75 minute session. Brain Gym works by helping you create new neural pathways in your brain to integrate positive beliefs that help you live the life you want to live. The movements also relieve stress and anxiety by relaxing stress reflexes that are "stuck on" in your brain and your body. All groups are for adults.

Each group opens by doing PACE: 4 easy Brain Gym movements that help you get mentally and emotionally organized to participate in group. Each group member talks for six minutes about what is going on in her life and what she''d like to improve this week. During this time Diane helps her write a goal to which she will do the Brain Gym movements with the group.
Your group leader, Diane Malik, M.A. will lead the group for 20 - 25 minutes doing Brain Gym & BrainMoves movements that will help each group member reach her/his goal. Diane chooses the correct movements each week depending on each group member's individual goal for that week.
Each group member talks for six minutes about what has changed for her about her goal after doing the Brain Gym and BrainMoves movements. At this time, each group member can ask for specific movements to do during the week to help her stay relaxed and calm and to help her maintain her goal.
Closed group sessions meet once a week for eight weeks, and allow new members to join only for the first two weeks. After that, the group is closed to new members. This helps create a safe space in which you know the other people in your group and can slowly build a trusting relationship with the group.. Some people prefer this format because they can build a community that gives them the space to share more freely and still feel safe and supported. Group members commit to the full eight weeks. At the end of the eight weeks the group can decide if they want to continue for another eight weeks. The group will then be open to new members for the first two weeks of the new period if there is room in the group for new members.
An open group is an ongoing group that is open to new members every week. You can decide to come to one or more sessions without making an up front commitment. This is a good option for people who want more flexibility and don't mind possibly having new people join the group from week to week. I create a safe space for all group members so you can share and get the support you need. Some people come back each week, some people drop in when they feel they need the extra support.

Diane Malik, M.A. has been a licensed brain Gym Instructor & Consultant since 2002. She has a masters degree in counseling psychology from Lewis & Clark University in Portland, Oregon and has extensive experience using Brain Gym in her private practice. Diane's unique approach to group work integrates concepts from theories of psychotherapy with the Brain Gym and BrainMoves movements. Diane believes that each person attending group should leave each group feeling better as well as well as taking home tools that will help her/him manage stress on her/his own between sessions. She offers support and encouragement as well as practical tools for change.
